Engleman Hall - Room C112

After undertaking an independent study in collaboration with the SCSU Women's Studies Program, playwright and historian, Daisha Brabham -- a graduating senior -- has written a play about the history of Black womanhood in America. The play, beginning with Yoruba Tradition of West Africa, travels with a number of different African American women, such as Venus Hottentot, Billie Holiday, and Mammie. The play is a choreo-play, emphasizing physical movement as well as primary source accounts contemporary to the time period. Southern students, as well as two Hillhouse sophomores, have been cast to play the key roles.
