The Connecticut Watercolor Society was founded in 1938. The society holds two annual juried exhibitions to which all resident Connecticut artists may submit. Transparent watercolor and gouache were the mainstay of the society's early exhibits. Today, any water media painting, unvarnished, framed under glass, may be accepted. The best works from all styles of expression will be selected. Every painting submitted to an exhibition will be reviewed by the jury, which usually consists of one, out of state, nationally recognized artist. The jury selects both those paintings to be exhibited and those paintings which will be award recipients. The jury of the Connecticut Watercolor Society has been composed of such well-known artists as Andrew Wyeth, John Pike and Dong Kingman.
